What we do and how we started!
Great Bowden Visual Arts was set up in 2005, primarily to run annual art shows in the village. The impetus for holding art exhibitions in Great Bowden came originally from local artist the late Alec Riddett. He had organised an event for the Great Bowden Festival in 2004, to showcase villagers’ artistic talent, and when asked by one of our founder members, Paul Harrison, why he didn’t organise one every year he replied, “Good idea - why don't you do it!”. Thus was born the Great Bowden Visual Arts group and its annual open art show, which ran from 2006 until 2018.
Now, though, we have decided to do different things and have passed the baton for organising the annual art exhibition on to a new team. The exhibitions reflect the extraordinary talent in our local community; alongside professional and other established artists there is work from people new to art, some of whom may never have exhibited before. Long may this tradition continue! In the meantime, Great Bowden Visual Arts will remain active by hosting other events.
Please see the 'Exhibitions and Events' page about our new activities and for information on the new exhibition organisers. You can also read here about our final art show, which took place over the weekend of 20th-21st October 2018.
